Gwen Heyer, 83, of Sumner, died Saturday, May 31, 2014, at the Hillcrest Home in Sumner.

Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner with Rev. William Runaas, Jr. officiating.  Inurnment will follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Sumner.  Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, June 2^nd at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the church on Tuesday. A P.E.O. service will be held at the funeral home at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Memorials may be made in her name to St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner. 

Gwenyth Lee, daughter of Alvin W. and Ella M. Borcherding Hucke, was born May 2, 1931, in Chickasaw County, Iowa. She was baptized in June of 1931, at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner. She graduated from Fredericksburg High School in 1948. On November 7, 1948, she was united in marriage with Charles Leo Heyer at the Little Brown church in Nashua. Gwen is a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner. She and her husband are a combined 168 years baptized members of the church. She has been active as a charter member of the Altar Guild, taught Sunday School, embroidered baptismal napkins, was a Bible Study member for 50 years, and served as president of the Ladies Circles and the Church Centennial lunch. She was a member of the P.E.O. sisterhood, served as president of P.E.O. Chapter FH, and attended the International P.E.O. Convention. Gwen was a master quilter, crocheter, knitter, expert seamstress (especially for daughters, Rosalie and Joan), Green Thumb gardener, and flower grower. She loved golf, skiing, hiking, biking, hunting, and quilting, all with Chuck. She also had been a Cub Scout leader.

In addition to her husband, Chuck of Sumner, Gwen is survived by one son, Victor Charles (Carmen) Heyer of Lake Ozark, Missouri; two daughters, Rosalie Sue (Steve) Callison and Joan Alice (Dan) Knight of Rochester Hills, Michigan; eight grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; one brother, Roger (Laura) Hucke of Sumner; and two sisters, LeAnn (Tim) Baldwin of Nashua and Pat (Robert) Ross of Fredericksburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
